The wire rope can also be divided into three types according to the contact state between each layer of the steel wire in the contact, line contact or surface contact.
1 point contact wire rope: The diameter of the wire in the strand is the same. In order to make the steel wire evenly stressed, the spiral angle after twisting each layer of steel wire is approximately equal, but the twisting distance is not equal, so the inner and outer steel wires cross each other and are in point contact state.
2 wire contact wire rope: The twisting distance of each layer of wire in the strand is equal, and the inner and outer wires are in contact with each other on a spiral line, which is in line contact state. The performance of wire contact wire ropes is much better than point contact, so it is widely used.
3 surface contact wire rope: one type of surface contact strand, the outer layer is made of special-shaped steel wire, the surface is smooth, and the wear resistance is good. Compared with other types of steel wire ropes of the same diameter, the tensile strength is large and can withstand lateral pressure. However, the flexibility is poor, the process is complicated, and the manufacturing cost is high. It is often used as a load-bearing cable, such as a cable crane and a cable on an aerial ropeway.
