Experts from the Korea Academy of Science and Technology claim that they have successfully developed a low-cost nano-scale power generation technology using the piezoelectric effect. The so-called piezoelectric effect means that when some dielectric materials are deformed by an external force in a certain direction, a polarization phenomenon occurs inside the current to generate a current. Conversely, when an electric field is applied in the direction of polarization of the dielectric, these dielectrics also deform.

The benefit of this power generation technology is the ability to generate currents in a completely pollution-free manner, such as vibration, shaking, and any other form of mechanical energy. The amount of electricity that can be generated is almost unlimited. In recent years, many research institutes have been committed to this aspect of development, but due to limitations in cost and manufacturing processes, little progress has been made. But the Korea Academy of Science and Technology said they have successfully solved these problems. The key to solving the problem lies in a composite material made of carbon nanotubes and a small amount of graphene Oxide, which constitutes the main part of the nano-generator. Researchers have allowed nanoscale piezoelectric particles to enter this generator, which creates electricity.

It is reported that the Korea Academy of Science and Technology plans to apply this new technology in the fields of consumer electronics and sensor networks.
