In the 1980s, there were three main types of solid polysulfide rubber products: Type 1A polysulfide rubber, which is a polycondensate of dichloroethane and alkali metal tetrasulfide (Thiokol A). The 2FA type polysulfide rubber is a polycondensate of dichloroethane, bis-2-chloroethyl formal and an alkali metal disulfide (Thiokol FA). The 3ST polysulfide rubber is a polycondensate of dichlorovinyl formal, trichloropropane and an alkali metal polysulfide (Thiokol ST). Compressive deformation is improved compared to the first two types of polysulfide rubber due to the inclusion of a terminal group and a degree of crosslinking of 2%, but the oil resistance and storage stability are inferior to that of Thiokol FA. The liquid polysulfide rubber with low molecular weight (1200-3000) has end groups such as sulfhydryl groups, hydroxyl groups, halogens, polyamines and amides, and the liquid polysulfide rubber with bismuth end groups accounts for most of the polysulfide rubber products.
