China's shale gas exploration and development is still in its infancy

According to the website of the Ministry of Land and Resources, the Ministry of Land and Resources held a press conference today to report on the progress of shale gas exploration and development in China.

Peng Qiming, director of the Department of Geological Exploration of the Ministry of Land and Resources, said that at present, China's shale gas exploration and development is in its infancy, still facing many problems, and it still needs a difficult practical exploration. At present, the breakthroughs in shale gas exploration and development in China are limited to the marine strata in the Sichuan Basin. Other marine strata, as well as widely distributed continental and marine-continental strata, have not yet formed industrial capacity. The core technology of some exploration and development is still not fully grasped. Compared with domestic conventional oil and gas, it is costly, difficult, and low-efficiency. New companies entering the field of shale gas exploration and development still take a long time to accumulate technology, materials and experience.

Peng Qiming said that the Ministry of Land and Resources will focus on the following tasks: First, launch a new round of national shale gas resource potential evaluation, indicate the exploration direction, and lay the foundation for the exploration and development layout under the new situation. The second is to implement the special investigation and evaluation of shale gas, and to optimize the target area and implement the resource base. The third is to promote the construction of shale gas exploration and demonstration bases such as Fuling and the shale gas exploration and test areas in northern Guizhou, summarize the development model, and promote the application of technology. The fourth is to actively create a competitive, dynamic and orderly shale gas exploration and development market, and further transfer a batch of shale gas exploration blocks to the society, so that more social capital including private enterprises will enter the shale gas exploration and development. In the field; encourage oil companies to further increase shale gas exploration rights in the original oil and gas block, and increase investment in comprehensive exploration. The fifth is to do a good job in shale gas exploration and development supervision and service, and urge the exploration right holder to increase the investment in shale gas exploration and development, and create a good exploration and development working environment for the shale gas mining right holders.
