The world's largest tidal power station officially put into production

According to South Korea's "Korean Daily" reported on August 4, the world's largest tidal power station - Shihua Hu power station on the 3rd officially put into production in South Korea. The power station started construction in 2004 and it took seven years.

According to the report, as a tidal power station that uses the difference in tidal level, the power generation capacity of this power station is the largest in the world. The power station was built at Shihwa Lake in Anshan City, Gyeonggi Province. The annual power generation capacity is 1.5 times that of the Zhaoyang River Dam Hydropower Station.

The Shihua Hu power station entered a phased test run from April last year. Due to the dramatic increase in electricity demand this summer, six of the 10 units were put into production three months in advance.

The report said that the South Korean government expects that the power station will be able to reduce the import of 86.2 million barrels of crude oil into production, saving about 94.2 billion won (about 573 million yuan) each year. The remaining 4 of the 10 units of the power station are scheduled to be put into production after the end of trial operation in November this year. At that time, it will be able to supply environmentally friendly power generated by the use of tidal water to cities with a population of 500,000.

The report also pointed out that apart from Shihwa Lake, the South Korean government has also actively promoted the construction of tidal power stations in Taian in Chungnam, Ganghwa in Incheon, Pyeongtaek in Gyeonggi, and the northern end of Yeongjong Island.
