It is of great significance to develop and utilize shallow geothermal energy to build a resource-conserving and environment-friendly society, improve China’s existing energy structure, and promote the realization of national energy-saving and emission reduction strategic goals. The scope of this geothermal survey and evaluation is the city's urban area and long-range planning and construction area. The main contents are to identify the characteristics of shallow geothermal energy distribution, occurrence conditions, and formation thermal properties parameters, and to estimate the amount of available resources. On the basis of investigation and evaluation, we will formulate a special plan for the development and utilization of shallow geothermal energy in Huaibei City in conjunction with the city’s economic development, urban construction, mineral resources planning and land use planning, and the mid- and long-term goals of renewable energy development and utilization.
From the analysis of natural and meteorological conditions and regional geological conditions, the development and utilization of shallow geothermal heat in Huaibei City has good conditions and has broad prospects for development. According to incomplete statistics, the total underground drainage volume of coal mines in the city reached 54 million m3/a. The suction and heat release capacity of the city can meet the requirements for heating and summer cooling in most office areas and living areas. At present, the use of shallow geothermal energy in Huaibei City is in its infancy.
