German Bosch Announces 19.6% Conversion Efficiency of Its Crystalline Silicon Photovoltaic Cells

Recently, Bosch Solar Energy AG announced that its large-area PERC solar photovoltaic cell has achieved a new world record. The independent calibration laboratory of the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems has tested this and confirmed that its conversion efficiency has reached 19.6%. This monocrystalline silicon solar cell uses a metal screen printing technology with a specification of 156x156mm.

In addition, the peak output power of this high-performance solar cell also reached 4.73 watts. In general, silicon-based solar cells using screen printing technology have a conversion efficiency of 17% to 18.5%.

PERC is "emitter and backside passivation battery." The backside of these solar cells is covered with a dielectric and metal layer with local contact points. This new structure optimizes the optical and electrical properties of solar cells. The projected light can be reflected on the back of the cell so that the emitter can convert more light into electricity. The front face of this high-performance battery has also been optimized.

The unique battery design concept has improved the performance of the battery and can be used even under weak light conditions. Due to the high open circuit voltage, the temperature coefficient is significantly better than Other standard solar cells. Therefore, solar modules using these solar cells have a corresponding increase in output power even under weak light, and can increase ambient temperature and increase the annual output of electrical energy.
