Liu Xiangfeng, 35, is a painting engineer and currently works for a shipbuilding company in Greece. One day in 2002, Liu Xiangfeng, who was working at the dock, found that there was a giant ship not far from the coastline. This big guy is different from the average vessel. It is not only twice as long as the average passenger ship, but also has a high deck. The next day, as a paint supervisor, Liu Xiangfeng, together with four technicians, wore a special boarding pass and boarded the "special" vessel, the "Varyag". In the past, I just watched from afar. When I actually boarded the ship and stood on a wide deck like the Grand Plaza, Liu Xiangfeng couldn’t hide her inner excitement. 3, fighting for more than two months, successfully completing the arduous task

To paint the entire ship, the first step is to clean the hull. In order to remove the shells adsorbed on the bottom of the ship, more than 100 staff members went into battle at the time. Each person took a shovel and shoveled them off the boat a little. It took a full three days to shovel and the shells were shoveled down. Installed a few big trucks. This has never been encountered in Liu Xiangfeng's previous work.

Liu Xiangfeng's work is mainly to check the quality of paint spraying. He boarded the boat early in the morning and worked with the painters to keep up with the progress of the project. “Spray paint must first rust the hull, then apply primer, intermediate paint, anti-fouling paint, each step is very important.” Liu Xiangfeng said that due to the particularity of the aircraft carrier, it needs to use a kind of anti-rust ability. In mid-September of that year, after more than two months of hard work, the painting work was successfully completed. The iconic gray painting of the Chinese Navy replaced the previously faint rust, and the worn-out "Varyag" was completely new. After the work was completed, Liu Xiangfeng and the workers left the building reluctantly.

Because of the confidentiality system at the time, Liu Xiangfeng knew that their newly painted ship would become China’s first aircraft carrier, but in the years after he left, he never mentioned this matter to anyone, just paying close attention to the news.
