Mitsubishi Electric's new "SLIMDIP" series of power semiconductor modules that can drive home appliances such as home air conditioners, washing machines and refrigerators will be available on May 11, 2015. The new product is 30% smaller than the company's existing product and "to achieve the industry's smallest package size" (the company).
The new product is equipped with a 7th-generation IGBT ultrathin-structured Reverse Conducting IGBT (diode-integrated IGBT), compared to Mitsubishi Electric's existing "Dual-In-Line Package Intelligent Power Module Ver. 6" , The chip size and the gap between the chips are reduced. As a result, the package size is reduced by approximately 30% (approximately 1000mm3) compared to DIPIPM Ver. 6 to 2219.8mm3 (18.8mm × 32.8mm × 3.6mm). In the 1.5kW class power semiconductor module for motor drive, 2219.8mm3 is "the smallest package in the industry" (the company).
This module has a control IC with protection function and a bootstrap diode with current limiting resistor, which can reduce the number of external components. In addition, a ground terminal of the high-voltage side drive power supply is newly added, thereby simplifying the pattern of the high-voltage terminal on the substrate, and the intention is to miniaturize the system and simplify the design.
At present, the SLIMDIPTM series consists of two products, namely "SLIMDIP-S" for refrigerators and "SLIMDIP-L" for air conditioners and washing machines. The sample price of the former is 650 yen (excluding tax), and sample shipments will begin on June 5, 2015. The sample price of the latter is 800 yen (excluding tax), and sample shipments will begin on May 11, 2015.
