According to Reuters, Mercedes-Benz announced on Saturday that it has reached a cooperation agreement with Qualcomm to jointly develop technologies for wirelessly charging mobile phones and wirelessly charging electric vehicles. The move is part of a larger effort by Mercedes-Benz and rival BMW and Audi to develop software and communications technologies to strengthen the position of high-tech automakers.
Mercedes-Benz and Qualcomm said in a joint statement that they will evaluate the feasibility of using wireless technology to charge electric and hybrid electric vehicles. The two companies will also explore technologies that enable users to wirelessly charge mobile phones and other devices while driving, and enhance the user experience with high-speed 3G/4G connectivity.
Thomas Weber, a Mercedes-Benz research and development executive, said, “It is very important for us to maintain our technological leadership and continue to provide our customers with an unparalleled experience. For this reason, we are eager to cooperate with internationally renowned technologies like Qualcomm. Company cooperation."
