Meng Xiankai: PV winter is not approaching

Yunnan Shilin Photovoltaic Power Plant has a total installed capacity of 166 MW. At one time, some media claimed that it “filled the gap in the large-scale solar photovoltaic grid-connected power generation in Yunnan Province”, but there are cases where this power station operation has encountered problems. Recently, Wuxi Suntech also appeared in the “Donation Gate” incident. Does the emergence of these circumstances indicate that the "wealth myth" of the photovoltaic industry is no longer a thing of the past? The entire photovoltaic industry is going downhill? With these issues, on August 23, the "Science Times" interviewed Meng Shiyi, vice chairman of the China Renewable Energy Society.

Photoelectric non-profit-making industry Meng Xianzhao told the "Science Times" that, in terms of the nature, photovoltaic generation is an industry that depends on policy promotion. Market alone is not enough, and subsidies from the national community are needed to support it. China's photovoltaic power generation is still Weaknesses.

“The government has been exploring the on-grid tariffs before. For China, photovoltaic power generation is still in its early stages of development. For companies, it should not be viewed as a profitable industry. We must take a positive attitude and regard it as a meager profit industry. The gross profit is 8% to 10%, and the loss during the period of exploration is normal, which is equivalent to the contribution to the future development and positioning of photovoltaics.” said Meng Xianyi.

The establishment and operation of Yunnan Shilin Photovoltaic Power Plant is also at an exploratory stage and needs local government support. The provinces and cities have set an example, such as the introduction of a PV on-grid tariff subsidy policy prior to the launch of a nationwide unified photovoltaic power generation Feed-in tariff. This policy sets an on-grid tariff of 1.15 yuan/kWh and is not a total installed capacity of photovoltaic power generation. The capacity is limited, and indicates that if there is a gap between the on-grid tariffs approved by the National Development and Reform Commission and the prices, the balance will be partially covered by local finances in Qinghai Province.

Meng Xianyi also pointed out that Suntech's “donate door” incident is only a management issue, and this behavior will only affect the reputation of the company, and it is insufficient for the overall photovoltaic industry to have an impact.

Technological innovation to achieve profits Profitability of enterprises to continue to reduce costs, Meng Xian pointed out that an empirical formula - double the size of industrial production costs will drop by 20%, solar energy conversion efficiency by 1%, the cost will drop by 6%. We should make profits through the integration of a complete industrial chain and industries, rather than relying on intensive and cheap labor.

“Before the parity Internet access is reached, the key to the development of the industry still depends on technological innovation to reduce costs and to develop core technologies. However, our enterprises are now underinvested, especially in thin-film solar cells, mainly relying on imported equipment from foreign countries. Production. And companies should become the mainstay of scientific and technological progress, but it is still insufficient." Meng Xianjun said.

Usher in the "golden period"

Meng Xianzhe pointed out that in the next five years, although China's photovoltaic industry is still in a period of development, and overall it will increase steadily, it will enter the integration period, and competition in the industry will inevitably become more concentrated. SMEs are bound to face difficulties because They lack core competence in technology and products. For example, at present, there are only a few dozens of manufacturers of solar cells that have a certain scale and core competitiveness, but their market share is higher. It can be said that this integration period is beneficial to the Chinese PV industry.

Although there are various problems in the photovoltaic industry at this stage, Meng Xianzhang pointed out that if the company persists for 7 to 10 years, it will usher in the “golden period” of the photovoltaic industry. “It is expected that photovoltaic power generation will achieve parity access in 2017-2020, and the impact of the policy will gradually decrease, and it will be the road to a market mechanism, which will be a new round of industrial development.”

Meng Xiankai stressed that the global scale of the photovoltaic industry is still very small. In 2010, the installed capacity of grid-connected photovoltaic power generation in the world was only 40 million kW. By 2020, Europe hopes to achieve 30% 20% of renewable energy, replace 20% of fossil energy, save 20% energy, reduce consumption by 20%, and generate 100 million to 400 million kW of photovoltaic power. The United States also proposes to achieve 100 million photovoltaic power generation by 2020. ~350 million kW; China hopes to achieve 50 million kW; the world will reach 500 million to 1 billion kW. Under such market demand, China's photovoltaic industry naturally has an explosive growth, and companies will once again thrive.
